The gazette is a official newspaper state publication through which significant announcements, decisions and information of the government are published. It is a sort of official newspaper giving information regarding activities and policies of the government. It has two categories namely; "Ordinary Gazette and extraordinary Gazette.

Ordinary Gazette: This is a weekly publication which holds general announcements of the government.

Extraordinary Gazette: It is only issued in special occasions like when an act is promulgated or when a significant notification is issued. It is special and can be issued without any time.

Gazette Notification number is a number which is allocated to a legal publication in the gazette of a government. Such notifications are government announcements which are usually in respect of any changes in laws and regulations or in other important matters. The number is used to refer and find the exact notification in the gazette. It also assists in making sure that the notification can be readily referenced and referred to when required.

The documents required to change name on Aadhaar and other documents are two identity proofs with old name such as Aadhaar, PAN or passport. It takes three stages

• prepare and notarize an affidavit with your old and new names.
• post a name change advertisement in a local newspaper.
• prepare and send a Gazette Notification with the required documentations, including a request letter, signatures of the witnesses and a CD. Pay the government fee (through internet) (Rs.1100 in adults and Rs.1700 in minors). In order to download Gazette of India, go to https://egazette.nic.in and shut down the new window and move to Search by Gazette Category and then choose Weekly Gazette and Part Four. Identify the appropriate publication based on the correct week e.g. June 1. Go to Gazette and search your name, download it and print the first page and the page containing your name. These printouts will be required in formal records once you have changed your name.

To do so, you will have to visit the official web portal myaadhaar.gov.in and go to the option "Book an Appointment." Select your closest city and go on. Type in your Aadhaar number, mobile number and validate with OTP. Choose document, then under document select completed, then select identity proof (e.g. PAN, voter ID), and then select a time slot at the Aadhaar center. Make a payment of 50 rupees to correct name (100 rupees to update biometric). You need to show documents, go through biometric check-up, and your name should be changed within 24-48 hours on the day of your appointment.

You will usually require a notarized affidavit, identity and address verification, newspaper adverts, photographs, and a soft copy of your application to alter your name in the Gazette. You will also be required to pay the relevant fees of the Gazette notification.

• For Address Proof (utilities bills, voter identification, rent agreements)
• Two newspaper print (one regional and one national)
• Two passport-sized photographs
• Digital Copy, Soft copy in CD (MS Word format)
• Declaration letter
• Where applicable, a divorce decree or a marriage certificate (where the change of name is a result of marriage) may be needed as well.
• Application and signed to the Controller of Publications
