Online Gazette Application Form
By Sahil Singh | Legal Document Consultant, Bengaluru | 11 years helping Karnataka families navigate civil registration paperwork
One of my clients I met last year.He was a software engineer within Whitefield. He was a software engineer in Whitefield. He has had three consecutive Saturdays of driving to the office of the BBMP to get a copy of the birth certificate of his daughter. However, whenever he visited BBMP he had trouble. He had waited in the long queue and when it was his turn he was given a completely false form by a governmental official! One Saturday when he reached BBMP he found that the office was closed without any prior notice.
One day he called me after his visit to BBMP was the last one.. I gave him the opportunity to tell me about his problems, and then I informed him about the e-JanMa Karnataka gov portal.
He accessed the portal and in 40 minutes, he downloaded and printed the birth certificate of his daughter!
This is the actual value and influence of this portal. It can be used by anyone to do his or her work without having to go to a government office physically. It is not necessarily going to run smoothly, however, when it does, it provides actual results and saves your precious time and efforts.
e-Janma Karnataka Gov In: Complete Guide to Birth Certificate Services
What Is e-Janma Karnataka?
eJanma Karnataka is the state government's online portal for civil registration services — primarily birth and death certificates. The portal is run by the Health and Family Welfare Department of Karnataka and directly connects to the Registrar of Births and Deaths system across Karnataka.
Please note: The URL is ejanma.karnataka.gov.in.
The portal was actually built with a positive intention to reduce dependence on physical office visits for certificates which are, technically, a matter of public record. When you register a birth, the government records it but if you want a copy of that record you must not wait for an entire day! You can easily get a birth or death certificate by just logging into the ejanma.karnataka.gov.in portal. It saves your valuable time and effort.
But it doesn't always work properly to be very honest and we have mentioned this before but when it works properly it makes your life easy and hassle free.
Services Offered on e-Janma Karnataka Gov In
The portal handles many things, but all of them don't work equally well.
Birth certificate download is the key service that is delivered by the portal and it's one of the main reasons for which most people come across the portal.
If the birth was registered after 2000 and everything was filled in correctly at the time of registration, you can usually get the certificate online without any kind of hassle.
The process of death certificate download is similar. The process remains the same, only the record type is different.
Birth record search allows you to verify whether a birth has been registered or not before you try to download it. It becomes very useful especially when you're not sure about the fact that the registration really happened or not — especially for the older records or rural registrations that may have been partially digitized.
Correction requests can be submitted online for certain types of errors such as wrong spelling of name, wrong date of birth, or parent name corrections.
But all types of corrections can't be handled digitally. Some of them still require an in-person visit to the government office with all the necessary supporting documents. I'll cover this in more detail in section five.
New registration assistance — The portal also supports registrations of birth which weren't recorded at the time of delivery. This is a more detailed process and usually requires hospital records or an affidavit.
One thing the portal doesn't handle well: older records. Pre-2000 births, registrations from smaller gram panchayats, and hospitals that were late to go digital — these often don't show up in searches. If you can't find your record, that doesn't always mean it's missing. It may just not have made it online yet.
How to Register on e-Janma Karnataka Gov In
You will have to complete the registration process if you want to track your application status or submit a correction request. For downloading a basic certificate, however, an account is generally not mandatory.
You can create an account easily.
First, go to the ejanma.karnataka.gov.in portal and click on the "New User Registration" or "Sign Up" button — the label has changed a couple of times during portal updates, so look carefully for any variation of these words near the login area.
A valid mobile number will be needed as an OTP will be sent to your mobile number for verification purposes — please make sure that the mobile number which you have entered is active, it is very important in order to complete the verification process. Please note this number will be linked to your account, and the helpdesk will use this number for verifying your identity if you call them for any purpose in the future.
After the OTP verification process is completed, you will have to set a password for logging into your account. Remember the portal has specific password requirements; it generally prefers a mix of uppercase, lowercase, a number, and a special character. Create your password in this way and write it down into your diary. If you forget your password you will have to reset your password, but the password reset process works slower than it should be, it may be time consuming so it's highly advisable to write down your password to avoid such hassles.
Fill in your basic personal details very carefully, do not overthink this section — because the provided details by you here will not affect the certificate for which you are actually looking for. Your details are needed for just account creation.
Always save your personal login credentials before closing the browser, as the session timeout on this portal is quite short. I'm saying this because I've been logged out in the middle of a browsing session several times.
How to Search and Download a Birth Certificate on e-Janma
This is the part most people actually need. Here's what works.
Open the portal and go to the homepage and search for "Search Birth Certificate" or "Download Birth Certificate." The exact placement can be shifted with portal updates, but it remains prominently visible on the main page of the site.
You'll be asked to enter details to locate the record. Typically:
- Name of the child as registered.
- Date of birth (approximate works if you're unsure of the exact date — widen the search range).
- District and hospital/registration office where the birth was registered.
Enter the correct information that you know. If the first search brings out nothing then try differently with variations. Suppose the child's name was entered as "Priya" at the time of registration but now you're searching "Priya Sharma," then it can be blank but try with just "Priya" and with the date of birth of the child. Some fields work with partial match, and some need exact match — it significantly depends on the portal version you are using.
Once the record appears on the screen click on it quickly to view the certificate you are looking for. You will get a download button , click on it, you will get the downloaded certificate in PDF format.
If the download fails or produces a blank PDF: If this happens, close the browser immediately and restart your system then clear your cache and cookie and try again through a different browser. Google Chrome and Mozzarella Firefox have both been more reliable in my personal experience than Microsoft Edge or older mobile browsers. Please note if it fails for three consecutive times, then it must be considered as a server related issue. It's not your fault, leave it for the day, come back the next morning and try again.
Please note that the downloaded certificate that you will get is digitally signed and it will carry a QR code for verification purposes. For most official uses — like schools, banks, or passport work — this version is accepted. Some government departments may still ask for a hard copy with a stamp. So you should know which one you will need before you start downloading.
Corrections via e-Janma Karnataka
In this section I will have to be really very honest with you.
Online corrections in the Karnataka e-Janma birth certificate system work for some mistakes, not all. You can fill out the form, upload your documents, and submit the request. After that, the registrar checks it and makes the correction — the portal just sends your request to them.
A small spelling mistake in the child's name is usually easy to fix.
If a parent's name has a couple of letters wrong, it can be difficult. Sometimes it gets corrected, sometimes it doesn't.
Big mistakes like a wrong date of birth or a completely wrong father's name are usually not fixed online, so you have to visit the local registrar's office in person, and you'll need documents like hospital papers, school records, or an affidavit.
What I tell my clients: Always use the portal to initiate the correction request process and generate a reference number. After doing this do follow up in person. If you have the reference number then it means that you're not starting from zero.
Wait 15 to 30 business days for the correction to show on the portal after it is approved by the registrar.
Helpdesk Contacts for e-Janma Karnataka Gov In
The portal lists a helpdesk, though reaching a live person takes patience.
Official helpdesk number: You can find the official helpdesk number listed on the ejanma.karnataka.gov.in under the "Contact Us" segment. I will advise you all to verify this number directly before placing a call as the helpdesk numbers on the government portals do change frequently.
Email support: You will find Email support under the Contact Us segment. In such government related matters response time may vary. If your matter is very urgent then put a mail first and then place your call.
District-level support: If the problem is related to a specific place—say a hospital in Mysuru or a gram panchayat in Raichur—reach out to the district registrar's office. They handle these local records, so it usually gets sorted faster than going through the central helpdesk. Their contact details are listed on the portal, district-wise, in the same section.
When you call: Before you start the call, have your registration number, your child's name, and date of birth ready. The help desk staff will need all these crucial things to locate your record. When the caller doesn't have these details ready, the call just drags on and takes much longer—sometimes three times as long.
I have noticed one thingOne thing: Try calling between 10 AM and 11 AM on weekdays. It's usually easier to get through then compared to the afternoon. There's no official reason—it just seems to work out that way.
Mobile App Integration
For e-Janma records, most mobile access happens through Karnataka's Seva Sindhu platform and DigiLocker. These are the two main places people use on their phones.
DigiLocker is a very useful platform for most people. Once your birth certificate arrives on e-Janma portal you can link it to your DigiLocker account and access it directly through the DigiLocker app. Please note that the certificate in DigiLocker is treated as equivalent to the original by most of the government and private institutions of the country.
How to link it: First open the DigiLocker, then go to "Search Documents," search for Karnataka Birth Certificate under the issued documents section, then carefully enter your registration details. If the record is there on e-JanMa, it usually shows up on its own.
Seva Sindhu lets you apply and request corrections on your phone, but it's not always smooth to use. For downloading documents, the eJanma website on a browser usually works better than the app.
The eJanma portal itself doesn't have a standalone app as of early 2026. Services are delivered through these connected platforms rather than a dedicated application.
What's Ahead for e-Janma Karnataka
The portal seems to be moving in a few new directions, but these are still in progress and not fully confirmed yet.
Better integration with hospital systems:
The system is slowly getting better connected with hospitals. The idea is very simple. When a baby is born in a registered hospital, the birth entry should start automatically, so parents don't have to apply separately. This is already working in some large private hospitals in Bengaluru where details are sent directly and the process begins on its own. But smaller clinics and taluk level hospitals are still not fully connected, so people there often have to handle things manually.
Expanded rural coverage:
Gram panchayat level registrations are still the weakest part of the system. Work is going on to digitize old records, but it is slow and not the same in every district.
Improved correction workflows:
The online correction process is slow and a bit confusing right now. The plan is to make it easier with fewer documents and faster approval.
No one really knows when these changes will happen. In Karnataka, these updates usually take time. So it's better to use the system as it is now, and see any improvement as a bonus.

How to download from e-Janma Karnataka gov without errors?
Use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox on your desktop or laptop, and always clear your cache before you start; if the PDF comes out blank, don’t worry—just close the browser, reopen it, and try again, and if it still doesn’t work, it’s usually a server error, so try again the next morning, while mobile browsers and slow internet connections can make things worse, so it’s best to avoid them if possible.

First, try to open the portal yourself. If it doesn’t load on both browsers, it’s probably a server issue. Can I use e-Janma Karnataka gov for births registered in Bangalore?
Yes, you can. Karnataka’s e-Janma covers BBMP-registered births in Bengaluru as well as other districts. Most big hospitals in Bengaluru have records online from around 2000. At the BBMP ward level, it’s a mixed case—some records are online, some are not. So it’s always better to search first before assuming your record isn’t there.
How secure is eJanma Karnataka gov in data?
Karnataka e-Janma covers BBMP and all district birth records, including major Bengaluru hospitals from 2000 onward. Always search first as ward-level digitization varies and some records may not yet be online.
What new features in Janma Karnataka gov in 2026?
As of early 2026, eJanma now links better with DigiLocker, making birth certificates easier to access online. Hospital-level real-time registration in Bengaluru is growing slowly. Any other new features should be treated as in-progress until they work on the portal.
How to reset password on e-Janma Karnataka gov in?
It's easy just click on the "Forgot Password" option on the eJanma login page. Then you will have to enter your registered mobile number and OTP to reset your password. If the OTP doesn’t come, try again. If it still doesn’t arrive, it could be due to a wrong mobile number used during registration. In that case, contact the helpdesk immediately.
